Read these Terms of Use before you install or use Portfolio or browse this website. By downloading, installing or using the software, or by browsing the site, you agree to be bound by them.
1. Acceptance of Terms
These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your use of the Portfolio computer program ("Software") and the marketing and documentation website at this domain ("Website"). If you do not agree to these Terms, you must not install, copy or use the Software or the Website.
2. Software License and Permitted Use
The Software is open source and distributed under the MIT License. You may:
- Use the Software for personal, private or commercial portfolio recordkeeping.
- Inspect, audit, modify and build the source code from the official repository.
- Distribute copies of the Software in compliance with the MIT License copyright notice.
You agree not to use the Software or the Website for any unlawful purpose or in violation of applicable financial laws.
3. Local Data and Privacy
Portfolio is an offline-first desktop tool. Your holdings, cash amounts, transaction history, notes and settings are stored in a database file on your own computer.
- We operate no remote servers that collect your investment records.
- No account, registration or cloud login is required.
- Anonymous product telemetry inside the application is opt-in and off by default. When enabled it sends anonymous interaction counters only, never ticker symbols, values, balances or personal identification.
4. Market Data and Third-Party Feeds
To value your portfolio the Software sends queries from your device directly to Yahoo Finance and public currency exchange services.
- Quotes, charts, exchange rates and indicator calculations may be delayed or inaccurate.
- We do not guarantee the completeness, timeliness or accuracy of third-party market data.
- Your device transmits ticker symbols directly to those endpoints. You are responsible for your network access and for the third parties' own terms.
5. Artificial Intelligence Integrations
The Software can produce portfolio briefings with large language models.
- Local runtimes: with a local model (such as Ollama or llama.cpp) your data does not leave your computer.
- Cloud providers: with a cloud provider (such as OpenAI, Anthropic, Groq, Gemini, OpenRouter or DeepSeek) your device talks to the provider directly using your own API key.
- AI-generated reports are text produced by probabilistic models. Do not treat them as certified audits or investment recommendations.
6. No Financial, Investment or Legal Advice
Portfolio is not a financial advisor, broker, dealer or registered investment consultant. The Software and the Website exist only for information and personal recordkeeping. Nothing in the Software, its reports and calculations or the Website constitutes:
- Investment advice or a recommendation to buy, hold or sell any security.
- Legal, tax, accounting or regulatory counsel.
- An offer or solicitation to trade financial instruments.
Investments involve substantial risk of loss and past performance does not predict future returns. Consult a qualified, licensed professional before making financial commitments.
7. Broker CSV Import and Calculation Accuracy
The Software includes import parsers for several broker CSV formats. Broker formats may change without notice; you must inspect and verify every imported transaction, quantity, fee and currency conversion. The developers are not responsible for errors caused by corrupted files, unparsed transactions or manual database changes.
8. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability
AS-IS BASIS: TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE SOFTWARE AND WEBSITE ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITH ALL FAULTS AND WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, INCLUDING THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.
IN NO EVENT SHALL THE AUTHORS, MAINTAINERS OR CONTRIBUTORS BE LIABLE FOR ANY DIRECT, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, EXEMPLARY OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES, INCLUDING LOSS OF PROFITS, LOSS OF CAPITAL, TRADING LOSSES, DATA LOSS OR EQUIPMENT FAILURE, ARISING FROM THE USE OF THE SOFTWARE OR WEBSITE. 9. Modifications to These Terms
We may modify these Terms at any time. When we do, the version and date at the top of this page change. Continued use of the Software or Website after a change means you accept the updated Terms.
10. Website Analytics and Cookies
This website uses PostHog to collect anonymous, aggregated analytics (for example page views and download clicks) so we can understand how visitors use the site and improve it.
Analytics are opt-in. On your first visit a cookie notice appears. The site loads PostHog only after you accept. If you decline, the page makes no request to PostHog, no analytics cookies are set and no events are sent. If you accept, PostHog sets a small cookie to remember your choice and to associate anonymous events with your visit. You can change your choice at any time by clearing this site's cookies and local storage.
PostHog does not receive your name, your portfolios, your balances, your transactions or any other personal data. Events carry only an anonymous identifier. The desktop application stays fully offline and sends no analytics unless you separately opt in from inside the application.
